About David
I grew up in a small farming community in rural southeastern Idaho. Despite the quiet rural setting, I managed to balance a near-perfect 3.97 GPA, induction into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, and achieving a 522 (a 99th percentile score) on the MCAT while raising a young child with my wife.

David’s Teaching Philosophy
Logic Over Memorization
My primary goal as a tutor is to help students move beyond rote memorization. Drawing from my experience scoring in the 99th percentile (522) on the MCAT, I focus on the following core principles:
Logic-Based Strategy: I teach students to deconstruct the specific logic used by test creators rather than just learning facts.
Reverse-Engineering: We bridge the gap between content and application by identifying the fundamental concepts in missed questions and reverse-engineering the logic used to reach the correct answer.
Modeling Distractors: A key part of my method involves having students create original MCAT-style questions to learn how "distractor" choices are built, which helps them spot traps on the actual exam. The Neuroscience of Success With a background in Neuroscience, I incorporate biological principles into my mentorship:
Sleep Hygiene: I view consistent, high-quality sleep as a non-negotiable component of effective studying.
Memory Consolidation: I emphasize the role of both REM and non-REM sleep in ensuring that material studied during the day is effectively recalled on test day.
Routine Building: I recommend implementing a "test day" sleep schedule at least two weeks before the exam to reduce anxiety and normalize the testing environment.
Experience and Mentorship: I have extensive experience in technical instruction and one-on-one mentorship:
Academic Leadership: I served as a cell biology lab manager, teaching core biological principles and research methodologies to incoming students.
Peer Mentoring: As the Head of Peer Mentoring for a pre-medical club, I have created personalized success roadmaps for students from diverse backgrounds.
Non-Traditional Perspective: As a non-traditional student, I deeply understand the challenge of balancing school, work, and family life, and I integrate that empathy into my tutoring.
